Last night my sister Sarah, a chef and semi-vegetarian and my sister Nadia, the vegan firefighter, invited me to have dinner with them and the rest of my family at The Cove. Every First Thursday of the month The Cove offers a new Vegan special. Not only did I get to celebrate my 25th birthday a week early, I also got to see everyone excited about getting together for Vegan Night. I had the special, Baked tofu with brown rice, organic spring mix salad and shortbread cookies. Yum.

It was honestly the some of the best tofu I have ever had. Sarah tried (and really liked!) the Vegan BLT with tofu bacon, organic spring mix, tomato and vegan chipotle mayo on Rustic Bread. She substituted the salad for sweet potato fries and was warned by the cashier that the sea salt on the sweet potato fries was not vegan. This got all of us confused, we had never heard of sea salt not being vegan. I myself use sea salt regularly, and couldn’t really find a clear answer online about the issue. Needless to say, she got the sweet potato fries anyway.

Nadia and her husband (also a vegan firefighter!) tried the Vegan Bacon Cheeseburger. I took a bite when Nadia had her guard down, it was really good!

The Cove was packed with people, but our food came out really quickly and tasted great. It’s pretty awesome to see so many people trying Vegan SOL food (Sustainable, Organic, Local). The Cove is a really unique place in San Antonio that I highly recommend for Vegans, Vegetarians and Omnivores alike.
