Digging into five layers of goodness

My friend Marisa has opened me up to a new world of gluten-Free baking. After our first unsuccessful brownie baking experience, I vowed to figure out the whole vegan + gluten-Free baking thing. Now let’s never speak of the brownie incident again. Agreed? Good. The gluten-free chocolate cake I made for my 100th blog post anniversary went over really well, so now I’ve been wanting some more baking inspiration. This is where The Little Aussie Bakery & Cafe steps in. Marisa had mentioned this place to us a while back and I’d been meaning to stop by. (Side note: I have to say Marisa and her boyfriend Remy are the most awesome, friendly, friend couple we have. It’s like being back in high school with no worries, just hacky sack, movies and jam sessions).

At The Little Aussie everything is 100% Gluten-Free and I was shown a few cake slice options that were also vegan. I decided to go with the chocolate cake to see how it compared to ours. It was indeed delicious, with a creamy can’t-believe-it’s-vegan center and crunchy pecan topping with chocolate icing. The only thing is that the $7 a slice price tag is hard to overlook. It’s definitely a sharing portion, but it makes for a very expensive cake. Perhaps Marisa and I should go into the Vegan Gluten-Free Cake Business to offer some more reason prices for delicious desserts!

Since dairy and egg are considered allergens, their menu makes note if their dishes or desserts contain them. It’s not a vegetarian restaurant, but I still see The Little Aussie Bakery & Cafe as a vegan-friendly place to try out again soon. Perhaps for Pizza Night? Well, we are on our way to Houston again to complete filming on our project with Rice University Art Gallery. Happy Thursday!

UPDATE: Little Aussie Has Closed
